Have you ever sunk a carrot into homemade hummus? OMG it’s so good. Hummus is one of my favorite things to make from scratch for a few reasons. First, it’s very easy to make — if you have an instant pot or slow cooker, you can cook garbanzo beans from scratch in a snap.
Second, the flavor and texture of scratch-made hummus is so incredible. It’s warm, smooth and creamy, and bursting with fresh lemon and garlic. It’s miles better than anything you can buy at the grocery store.
Finally, when you make hummus from scratch, it’s so affordable! If you make a batch on Sunday, you’ll have plenty for the entire week, and even enough to share with neighbors 🙂 And that’s the real joy of home cooking — sharing it with people that you love.
The key to really good hummus is a high-quality tahini. I buy it in bulk on Amazon or at my local Mediterranean market. As far as serving, homemade hummus is lovely with stuffed grape leaves (dolmas), easy lentil soup, fresh bread and a big Greek salad.
