This recipe for red rice with peas has been a family favorite since my kids were young. The rice is flavorful, colorful, and so easy to make! You won’t even need a knife or cutting board.
For the rice, I use Royal Basmati rice and buy it in bulk on Amazon. Royal basmati rice is a long-grain white rice grown in India. Studies have shown that rice grown in India contains less arsenic than rice grown in the U.S., so I avoid domestically-grown rice for my family when possible.
For the peas, I prefer frozen petite green peas. Petite green peas have a sweeter flavor and better texture than standard green peas, so I always have a bag of petite green peas in my freezer.
Red rice with peas goes especially well with beef or chicken taco meat, blended black beans, guacamole, grated cheese and cilantro lime sauce. Looking for another flavorful rice? Try our Cilantro Lime Rice.
