Is there anything more satisfying that breaking into a crisp chocolate shell over creamy vanilla ice cream? If you grew up eating Smucker’s Magic Shell, maybe you can relate.
Now you can create your own hardening chocolate sauce at home with just two ingredients! All you need is your choice of chocolate chips — milk chocolate, semi-sweet, or dark will work — and coconut oil.
To melt the chocolate, I like to use a homemade double boiler. You can also melt the chocolate in the microwave, just be super careful not to burn it.
To the melted chocolate, you’ll simply add a few tablespoons refined coconut oil (this is my favorite) and stir until smooth. Then your magically hardening chocolate sauce is ready to serve! Spoon over ice cream, let it harden and enjoy 🙂
If you buy the refined coconut oil in bulk, you can use it for all kinds of things in the kitchen — from sautéing or roasting veggies, to frying eggs, to using as a substitute for butter or margarine in baked goods. Unlike virgin coconut oil, refined coconut oil has a neutral flavor, making it a seamless substitution for almost any other fat.
